Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nyingchi (2,900m) — Gentle Start

Fly into Nyingchi Mainling Airport, one of the world's most scenic airport approaches through a narrow river valley. Your guide meets you and transfers to your hotel. Nyingchi's low altitude and high oxygen levels make it the perfect acclimatization base. Afternoon visit to the Nyingchi Giant Cypress Nature Reserve, home to a 2,600-year-old cypress tree (the "King of Cypress Trees," 50m tall, 5.8m trunk diameter).

Overnight: Nyingchi 4-star hotel | Meals: Welcome Dinner

Day 2: Nyingchi → Basum Tso Lake (3,480m, 120km)

Morning drive to Basum Tso Lake, a stunning glacier-fed lake surrounded by pristine old-growth fir forest and snow-capped mountains. Rated one of the world's most beautiful lakes by National Geographic. Take a peaceful lakeside walk, visit Tashi Island with its 1,500-year-old Tsodzong Monastery, and enjoy the reflection of mountains in the emerald water. Afternoon optional light hiking along the lake trail.

Overnight: Basum Tso scenic area guesthouse | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Basum Tso → Lulang Forest → Nyingchi (160km)

Drive to Lulang Forest ("Dragon King's Valley"), crossing Sejila Pass (4,728m) where on clear days you can see the majestic Namcha Barwa Peak (7,782m) — the eastern anchor of the Himalaya. Lulang is a Swiss-like alpine meadow with Tibetan pastoral scenes: yaks grazing, wooden fences, wildflowers, and snow peaks in the distance. Enjoy a traditional Lulang Stone Pot Chicken lunch, a local specialty.

Overnight: Nyingchi 4-star hotel | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 4: Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon (2,880m) — Full Day

The highlight of the tour. Drive to the Yarlung Tsangpo Grand Canyon, the world's deepest canyon (maximum depth 6,009m, length 504km). Take the scenic park bus to multiple viewpoints overlooking the dramatic U-shaped bend of the Yarlung Tsangpo River, with Namcha Barwa Peak towering above. Visit a local Monba ethnic minority village to experience their unique culture. The combination of river, canyon, forest, and snow peak creates one of the most dramatic landscapes on Earth.

Overnight: Nyingchi 4-star hotel | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Day 5: Nyingchi → Lhasa (400km, ~5.5 hours on new Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway)

Drive the scenic Lhasa-Nyingchi Expressway (opened 2021), one of the world's highest freeways. Cross Mila Pass (5,013m) with panoramic views of the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains. Arrive in Lhasa by afternoon. Rest and acclimatize to Lhasa's higher altitude.
